  • What are the costs of lactation consultations?

    The cost of our lactation consultations depends on your specific needs and if the consultations are done in-home or virtually. In-home visits are generally charged at $200/hr. to $300/hr. You should also consider that the cost of not breastfeeding could add up to thousands of dollars more than breastfeeding, when you take into account the cost of formula, bottles, sterilizers and cleaning supplies.

  • How can I prepare for breastfeeding?

    Breastfeeding is a natural process that you don’t need to prepare for. However, there are some things that you can do that will help. Talk to other mothers that breastfeed to learn about their experiences. Speak with your doctor and read about breastfeeding so you have a good understanding of the process and medical/scientific aspect involved. Buy the equipment you’ll need such as nursing bras, pump and breastfeeding pillow.

  • How can I prepare for a lactation consultation session?

    There’s not much you need to do to prepare for a lactation consultation session, but we do recommend that your baby is ready to feed just before we start. It would also be helpful to keep a record of feedings, weight loss or gain, and also ensure that your breastfeeding equipment is clean.

  • What will we do during a lactation consultation session?

    Your lactation consultant will start by discussing your needs and concerns and going through you and your infant’s medical history. We’ll weigh your baby before and after feeding. We may ask to see your technique and how your baby is latched. You’ll then get expert advice on how to alter your technique, positioning, health history, equipment, etc. We may also provide you with medical referrals, if required. These are just some of the things you can expect during a consultation.
